While dealing with the ever-dragging and moneymaking war with Russia, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky came up with his “brilliant” idea to ask Serbian “extreme and bizarre” performance artist Marina Abramovic to become an “Ambassador” for the war-torn country. According to the Telegraph U.K., Abramovic, a fierce critic of Russian President Vladimir Putin’s invasion of the country, said that Zelensky had asked for her help in rebuilding schools.
?”I was the first artist to support the Ukraine war against Russia and to give my voice. It is definitely a repetition of history,” she said in an interview with the Modern Art Museum in Shanghai. ?”I have been invited by Zelensky to be an ambassador of Ukraine, to help the children affected by rebuilding schools and such.”
The news outlet reported that ?the 76-year-old Serbian is holding her first solo exhibition in England and is the first female artist to have a major show in the Main Galleries of the Royal Academy of Arts in London. ?Visitors to the exhibition must reportedly squeeze between two nude models to enter the show, or opt to bypass what one journalist dubbed the “naked gates.”
Abramovic posted a video online a few days after Putin launched his war with Kyiv. In it, she spoke about being born in the former Yugoslavia, which was invaded by the Soviet Union, and called Ukrainians “proud, strong and dignified.” “I have full solidarity with [the Ukrainian people] on this impossible day. An attack on Ukraine is an attack on all of us. It’s an attack on humanity and has to be stopped,” she added.
For some reason, Zelensky sees hope in the said artist, as all his efforts of fighting with Moscow are crumbling, despite Western media’s claim that they are winning. The “Spring Offensive” by Ukraine against Russia this past spring failed. Ukraine’s three-month-long ‘counteroffensive’ against Russia this past summer, also failed. It met this failure by demanding critics ‘shut up’ about its failure. (Related: Ukrainian armed forces failed to achieve goals in three months of counteroffensive effort, Russian defense minister reports.)
“The military effort has become so strained, the United States has resorted to utilizing international terrorism against Russia by blowing up Russia’s Nord Stream pipelines in September 2022,” the Gateway Pundit further wrote. Now, for some reason, the war effort depends on the self-described artist, who was most famous for holding severed, bloody, goat heads. She reportedly denied being a Satanist, claiming she’s just an artist. She was briefly a featured artist for Microsoft in 2020 “until her ties to Satan became too much even for a company responsible for Windows ME,” GP also commented.
The said “performer” was photographed in front of a painting by Thomas Lawrence titled “Satan Summoning his Legions” with leftist billionaire Jacob Rothschild. She also had transgressive art installations called “Spirit Cooking” in 1996 that featured the consumption of bodily fluids, such as congealed blood, urine, breast milk, and sperm, while chanting phrases that some allege are Satanic.
Back in 2016, when Wikileaks published the Podesta Archive of emails. John Podesta, who previously served as White House chief of staff to President Bill Clinton and as Hillary Clinton’s campaign Chairman, was revealed to be attending the said “evil-summoning ceremony” as late as 2015.
Abramovic reportedly denied she worships the devil despite her Twitter user handle including 666 during that time.
Abramovic is just one of several celebrities to be recruited to help Kyiv’s public relations battle to ensure continued support for its struggle. While there are many ways to support, celebrities are first of all mobilizing funds for organizations delivering “humanitarian aid.”
Barbra Streisand has supported UNITED24’s Medical Aid work by popularizing the 24,000 “Friends of Ukraine” project encouraging people to sign up for a monthly donation of $24 to support medical workers. Streisand herself was said to have contributed a total of $24,000. Mark Hamill, the actor who played Luke Skywalker in the original “Star Wars” films, has also raised money to buy reconnaissance drones for front-line Ukrainian troops.
Moreover, Hollywood couple Mila Kunis and Ashton Kutcher also kickstarted a GoFundMe campaign with a $3 million donation last year. The fundraiser has since raised over $18 million. The former “That 70s Show” co-stars launched the initiative in a video where Kunis, who was born in Chernivtsi in Ukraine and later came to the U.S. in 1991, shared her pride in her heritage.
Oscar-winner and climate advocate Leonardo DiCaprio also reportedly donated $10 million to support Ukraine through the International Visegrad Fund. DiCaprio’s grandmother was born in Odesa in Ukraine and migrated to Germany in 1917. Supermodel Gigi Hadid, whom DiCaprio dated for a year, also donated all her earnings from participating in “Fall 2022 Fashion Week” to support humanitarian relief efforts for people impacted by Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.
Popular British couple David and Victoria Beckham also donated £1 million through the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF), where David is an ambassador. Meanwhile, another husband and wife tandem, Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds, matched up to $1 million in donations to the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR). Furthermore, Sean Penn, Liev Schreiber, Jessica Chastain, Ben Stiller, and Angelina Jolie all personally made visits to Ukraine. Their visits usually focused on humanitarian issues. The “war business” looks good, so far, critics seem to observe.
